A biography of Nathan Persad

The life and times of Nathan Persad
Nathan Paul Persad was born Diminath Sharma Jaipersad in Streatham's notorious Megabowl "in the 70's". Boney M were number 1, ITV did not exist and you could still purchase a house and a loaf of bread for 12 guineas.
After an abismally-paid but invaluable early career tuning Liberace's harpsichord, he shot to fame as "the pudgy one least likely to have a solo career" in legendary boy band The Persad Brothers.
After such unforgettable hits as "The Day it Changes Colour", "Dance The Lucky Pierre", and "I Love My Puppy So Much, It Makes Me Cry", Nathan (as he had become known) suddenly lost a few stone, and grew to six feet and one inch. The original appeal of The Persad Brothers was but a distant memory, and they had no choice but to split up. Daniel subsequently set up his own clothing label for well-behaved children, Rhyd is currently a stand-in for a Smokey Robinson tribute act, and Benjamin can be seen hosting his own jewellery show on cable. He prefers to be known as Kristov.
That just left poor Nathan. Desperate to show critics what he was capable of, He taught himself guitar at 11, drums at 13, piano at 15, and bass at 17. He wrote his first song at 19 or 20, depending on which Auntie you're having tea with.
His first album "Self Titled" was partly recorded on a 1981 Sanyo portable mono cassette recorder in a student bedroom in Salford, and his second "Maximum NPP" was done almost properly for Nathan's standards at the legendary Quantum Studio.. He has since gone on to record two further full length albums. 2005's "The N in R n B" and 2006's "Prisoner: Cell Block N", all warmly received by his growing fan base.
We are currently anticipating 2008's release: "Since 1978" - Nathan's first officially released album which will be out on Mile High Music in the summer.
Nathan currently lives in Deptford with Rufus and Cassius, his two sons from his sham marriage to beautiful East-end theatre actress Verity Malloy. She has custody of the cats Maybelline and Salem.
